Ep 25. NAEMT Radio - GEMT Program Update

NAEMT Radio Host Rob Lawrence welcomes returning guests, Immediate Past Presidents, Bruce Evans and Matt Zavadsky to discuss urgent issues surrounding the Ground Emergency Medical Transportation (GEMT) payment. NAEMT has recently written to CMS to address their actions in withholding approval of recently submitted State Plan Amendments (SPAs) citing the potential inclusion of federally unallowable costs that are non-ambulance service delivery related.

Ground Emergency Medical Transportation or GEMT is a program that provides reimbursements from Medicaid for EMS agencies that serve a significantly disproportionate number of low-income patients. The program offers supplemental payments to publicly owned or operated emergency ground ambulance transportation providers to cover the difference between a provider’s actual costs per GEMT transport and the Medicaid base payment, mileage and other sources of reimbursement.
